Led by Head Sommelier Nejc Jakopič, this masterclass offers a personal introduction to the world of wine and the art of pairing it with food. The experience begins in the wine cellar at Gourmet Vila Muhr, with an introduction to the restaurant’s story and philosophy over a welcome bite and the first glass.
More than a traditional wine tasting, this is an interactive exploration of wine, cocktails and their relationship with food. Through a variety of combinations, you will discover how grape variety, production methods, ageing, serving temperature and the character of each dish shape the tasting experience.
In an intimate setting, you are encouraged to compare pairings, ask questions and explore your own preferences, gaining practical insights into selecting, serving and enjoying wine with greater confidence.
Slovenian Sparkling Wine and Champagne
Accompanied by a welcome bite, you will compare a Slovenian sparkling wine with Champagne and discover the differences between them.
The sommelier will introduce the traditional production method, the influence of terroir, and the proper way to serve and taste sparkling wines.
Sauvignon Blanc
You will taste two different Sauvignon Blanc wines, comparing a fresh, crisp expression with a richer style of the same grape variety.
Discover Sauvignon Blanc’s signature aromas, the influence of production methods and ageing, and how to choose a wine to suit the way a fish dish is prepared.
Chamomile & Honey Sour
Under the sommelier’s guidance, each guest will prepare their own Chamomile & Honey Sour, accompanied by a small savoury bite.
You will learn basic cocktail-making techniques, explore the balance between alcohol, sweetness and acidity, and discover the difference between shaking and stirring. The sommelier will also explain how cocktails can be thoughtfully paired with food.
Red Wine
Explore the characteristics of red wine, the role of tannins, and how food influences its perception.
The sommelier will demonstrate how serving temperature affects a wine’s aromas and structure, and how adjusting it can create a more harmonious pairing with a dish.
Muhr Negroni
The experience concludes with the preparation of a Muhr Negroni. Each guest will measure out the gin, vermouth and bitters, then stir, serve and finish the cocktail with the appropriate garnish.
Larger groups can split into two, with half joining the cooking masterclass and the other half the wine masterclass.
